Message from the Principal

Dear Prairie Sky School Families,

This week was all about reconnecting and strengthening our school community. A highlight was Thursday's Meet the Teacher Night, where we welcomed an incredible turnout of families. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and to share the great learning taking place in our classrooms.

Our Kindergarten students wrapped up their colourful celebrations, with many students across the school joining in the fun by dressing in the colour of the day. We also saw the return of Fun Lunch, and we thank the volunteers who help make these opportunities possible. If you are able to volunteer throughout the year, we would love your support.

Earlier this week, we held our first School Council meeting of the year and appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with families and hear their perspectives. On Friday, staff participated in professional learning focused on Truth and Reconciliation and English as an Additional Language (EAL) reporting as we continue to grow and improve our practice in support of students.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another great week ahead at Prairie Sky School!

Warm regards,

Peter Rowe
Principal, Prairie Sky School

Prairie Sky News

Meet the Teacher Kindergarten – Thursday October 1st  5:00 – 6:30 pm

You will have the chance to meet the kindergarten team, Ms. Kalmakoff, Ms. Bains, Ms. Merelo and the admin. Doors will open at 5 pm sharp and the evening will run until 6:30 pm. Come and learn what a day in the life of a kindergarten student looks like at Prairie Sky.

Walking Field Trips

The CBE values the educational benefits of field trips. Field trips close to our school can complement classroom learning by giving students opportunities to explore the community around their school.

Please use this linked letter to learn about the spaces in Skyview we may access or spots in neighbouring communities.

Safety Spotlight: Fire Drills

This month, our students and staff participated in a fire drill as part of our ongoing commitment to school safety. Fire drills help everyone practice the procedures we would follow in the unlikely event of a real emergency, ensuring students can exit the building quickly, calmly, and safely. Students learn evacuation routes, designated gathering locations, and the importance of listening carefully to staff directions.

During each drill, staff account for every student using attendance procedures, and students remain outside until the all-clear is given. Practicing these routines throughout the year helps build confidence and ensures that everyone is prepared should an emergency ever occur.

As a soft-entry school, many of our staff are welcoming students inside the building before classes begin, which means supervision outside may be limited during the morning entry period. In the unlikely event that an evacuation occurs before or after school hours, we ask students to evacuate and head to their regular meeting place. Our staff will meet students there to support them during the evacuation.

If additional support is ever required during an emergency, we work closely with our neighbours at Apostles of Jesus School, and students may be directed there as a safe reunification and support location.

Safety is a shared responsibility, and through regular practice and strong community partnerships, we are committed to keeping all students safe. 🧡🚒
