Prairie Sky News  

Dear Prairie Sky Families, 

As we enter the final week of the school year, there is a growing sense of excitement throughout our school. This time is filled with special moments and opportunities for students to celebrate their learning and accomplishments. 

We also recognize that this week can bring a mix of emotions. Alongside the excitement for summer, some students may feel uneasy as they think about saying goodbye to their friends, teachers, and familiar routines. These feelings are normal, and we encourage families to check in with their children and offer support during this transition. 

Our final week will include a number of memorable events such as activity day, the talent show, buddy activities, and classroom celebrations. We will also honour our Grade 9 students as they celebrate their farewell and prepare to move on to high school. 

Our goal is to ensure this week is both joyful and supportive for all students, with time to celebrate, reflect, and connect. 

Thank you for your continued support throughout the school year. It has been a privilege to work with your children each day. 

Safety 

We would like to remind all students and families about the importance of safety before and after school. Students riding bikes or scooters are expected to wear helmets at all times and to ride cautiously, especially when approaching school grounds. We have noticed an increase in the use of motorized scooters, and it is essential that riders slow down and remain aware of others to help keep everyone safe. Additionally, students must ensure that their bikes and scooters are properly locked when at school. Unfortunately, there have been a few instances of theft recently involving items that were not secured. Taking these simple precautions will help keep our students safe and protect their belongings. 

School Council 

School Council Meetings 2026-27: 

The Annual General Meeting of the Prairie Sky School Council for the 2026-2027 school year will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 5:45pm at Prairie Sky School. This meeting will include: 

1. Election of the Executive Members for 2026-2027 school year 
2. Proposed amendments to the Operating Procedures (none anticipated) 
3. Presentation of the 2025-2026 school year financial statement 
4. Plans and Budget for the upcoming year 
5. Discussion of any issues or questions, open-floor discussion with the administration team 

The Prairie Sky School Council uses a Town Hall Model of Governance: all parents/guardians of students attending the school are members of the School Council and have the right to vote on all matters. The Executive Members of the School Council are the voted members who wish to commit to a particular role for the term of the school year; these positions include secretary, chair, vice-chair, incoming chair, treasurer, volunteer coordinator, social media coordinator, and general council members. 

All parents/guardians are welcome to attend any or all school council meetings. Meetings will be held in person at the school on the following dates and be live streamed via a Microsoft Teams meeting link shared prior to each meeting.

The main priority of the School Council is to enhance our students’ experience at Prairie Sky School. We welcome all and look forward to your involvement and input as we continue to work towards this goal.
